University System of Georgia Announces Seventh Annual Conference on the Americas

February 20, 2004, 12:00 am - February 21, 2004, 11:45 pm

Location: Savannah, Georgia

The University System of Georgia's Americas Council stages an annual conference, so presenters and
participants may explore critical socio-cultural, political, economic,
global, regional, and national issues: These topics may include the challenges and opportunities facing Latin America, the Caribbean, and Canada. The Council asks that scholars submit proposals
for individual papers and panels on specific topics.

While the Council conducts the conference primarily for collegiate faculty, we also encourage secondary-school faculty, along with graduate and
undergraduate students to participate. We expect the conference will
include at least two panels composed of graduate students and two panels composed of undergraduates.

Conference Topics May Include:

Politics;

World/Regional Economy and Trade Issues;

Cultural Studies;

Arts, Language and Literature;

Migration/Gender/Indigenous Populations;

Social Transformation;

Regional/Global Issues;

Education, Health, and Technology
History;

Ethnographic and Archeological Studies;

Science, Ecology and the Environment;

Teaching Paradigms: Interdisciplinary and Intercultural Perspectives.

Interested writers should submit paper and/or panel abstracts no later than 1 December 2003.

The Conference will take place at Armstrong Atlantic State University, located 20 minutes from historic downtown Savannah. Travellers will find several hotels, offering reasonable rates, located either downtown or within five minutes of the
conference location. The Savannah-Hilton Head International Airport is 17 miles from campus.
