The Fourth Annual Global Development Conference, to be hosted by the Government of Egypt, will be held at the Conrad Hotel on January 19-21, 2003. The Global Development Network -- including its North American hub (GDN-NA) -- hosts an annual conference to bring together researchers from the developing world to share their ideas, methods, data, and results.

The conference will take as its theme "Globalization and Equity." Conference organizers expect that this year's meeting will be the largest to date, with more than five hundred participants.

Atef Ebeid, Prime Minister of Egypt, will speak at the opening plenary. Dr. Abdulatif Al-Hamad, Director General of the Arab Fund for Economic and Social Development, will speak at dinner on January 19. Nicholas Stern, Chief Economist of the World Bank, and Mamphela Ramphele, Managing Director of the World Bank, will chair sessions. In one of the highlights of the conference, a special session of policymakers will feature Ernesto Zedillo, former President of Mexico; Manmohan Singh, former Indian Minister of Finance; and Benjamin Mpaka, President of Tanzania.
