On 2-10 January 2004, the Irmgard Coninx Foundation, the Social Science Research Center in Berlin, and Humboldt University will convene the first of a series of conferences and workshops on transnational phenomena. The first of these events will focus on the theme "Transnational Risks -- The
Responsibility of Social Sciences and the Media." Scholars and journalists selected by organizers to participate will have costs of travel and accommodation for the conference.

The conference -- including a keynote address by Professor Margaret Chatterjee of Delhi University -- will explore the way pluralism poses challenges in the world today. The theme is of special importance since there are other tendencies which pull in an opposite direction - the most evident of these being globalization.
The project will seek to identify and begin to delimit the boundaries of 'pluralism.'
