University of Calgary Centre Seeks Program and Research Partnerships
June 20, 2003
The International Centre at the University of Calgary operates a program of cooperative development projects around the world, and promotes collaborative research projects on development topics.
The International Centre (IC), through its International Development and Research activities, is at the forefront of the University of Calgary's commitment to international development -- forging partnerships within a developing world in order to help improve the quality of life of the poor and the disadvantaged.
The International Centre at the U of C supports field oriented projects in Asia, Africa, Eastern Europe and Latin America. Research, publications, policy advocacy, networking and institutional strengthening are core activities.
Partnership and cooperation are central to the IC's approach to development. The IC believes that partnership is not a one-way street; that our project partners have accumulated valuable wisdom and expertise from which we can certainly benefit. IC's partners include project communities, host country partner institutions, the University of Calgary faculties and students, the City of Calgary, donor agencies, and others.
Efforts continue to integrate international development content into curricula and to link development projects to the experience of students and faculty. Members of Calgary development and business communities join together for international conferences, workshops or network advocacy.
Our purpose is to improve the quality of life through
* research contributing to knowledge-based development theory and practice;
* building and promoting (mobilizing) the expertise, experience, and awareness of international development theory and practice in the University of Calgary, its institutional partners, and the wider community; and
* facilitating and supporting international development management within The University of Calgary.
